About the Artist:
James Houlcroft, known professionally as Houl, is a self-taught street artist and educator based in Canberra, Australia. Emerging from Sydney’s mid-2000s street art scene, Houl has developed a distinctive style characterized by clean lines, intricate details, and a blend of surreal and humorous characters. His work spans various mediums, including aerosol murals, paste-ups, and marker illustrations, often drawing inspiration from mythology, literature, and nature. Notably, Houl’s art has been projected onto iconic landmarks such as the National Library of Australia and Questacon during the Enlighten Festival. In addition to his artistic endeavors, he teaches English at Dickson College, where he integrates mural-making into his curriculum, fostering creativity among his students.
