The mural can be found on the side of the Oddfellows’ Hall on the main street of Yass.
The mural was produced by Kim’s daughter Caitlin and funded by Yass Arts and Southern Tablelands Arts and supported by Yass Vallery Council.
Kim Nelson (1958–2015) was widely admired for his evocative symbolist paintings and his generosity, mentorship, and tireless advocacy for the Yass Valley community.
Drawing on her uncle’s signature motifs, Katherine incorporated several of Kim’s most recognisable artworks: Burnt Sienna, The Red Shawl and The Fertile Vale. Katherine also painted Kim into the bottom left section of the mural, taken from the self-portrait artwork Tendine.
The mural (and Kim’s memorial bench in Riverbank Park) now stands as a permanent reminder of the creative lineage, friendships, and shared history that continue to enrich the Yass Valley.

About Oddfellow’s Hall
This historic Oddfellows’ Hall was lovingly restored by Kim’s long-time friend, Rosemary Hodgkinson (1941–2025), whose vision and dedication returned the building to its former glory. Kim used this building as a public art studio and music venue.
