Monica Bridge | Goulburn North Public School

Rainbow Serpent

This mural was created through workshops with Goulburn North Public School students, led by artist Monica Bridge. The mural reflects students’ connection to Country, culture, and community.

Students learned about traditional and contemporary Aboriginal art and contributed their own designs, which were combined into the final piece. The Rainbow Serpent represents the Dreaming and the creation of land and waterways, with symbols expressing respect for culture, caring for the land and animals, and working together.

Elements such as kangaroo tracks, river lines, and meeting place symbols represent Goulburn’s landscape, waterways, and its history as a place where people gather. The use of red, yellow, and white ochre tones connects to traditional materials of the region. The Southern Cross and stars in the night sky remind us of the Dreaming and the ongoing connection between people, land, and culture.
